circa 12th century, showing interlace geometry.
A carpet that is very similar to the Philadelphia rug in detail and color
appears in at least two paintings by Sofonisba Anguissola,
including "Portrait of the Artist with her Sisters Playing
Chess", from 1555, shown above (Muzeum Narodowe, Poznan).
