RED GROUND SIX COLUMN ~1~

This design is inspired by a carpet in the Black Church in Brasov.  It was commissioned by Murat Kupcu, of the Double Knot Gallery in New York, and completed in February of 2009.  It measures 124 cm x 168 cm. (pile only) with yellow kilims and madder red extended warp fringes.  The intricacy of the columns, spandrel and border designs are in stark contrast to the void red ground of the field, which give the center of this carpet an undeniable sense of calm.  This rug was woven in the village of Aceroba, by Hacer and Emine.  The production was directed by I. Tekin, overseen by Karakus, yarns dyed by Mustafa, with wool from Afyon with a 15%-20% mohair content.  The finished carpet was sheared by Saban and washed by Abdullah & Abdurrahman.
