"Sleeping Maid (Cartouche Border) Lotto", 51"x70", design by Christopher Robin Andrews, dying and
weaving directed by V. Dadash, woven by Sevinj and Gunay, yarns
dyed by Gulu, finished carpet washed by Vagif, completed in July
of 2006 in the Caucasus. The field design is a classical
"Anatolian" Lotto pattern with light blue highlights. The border
design is inspired by a carpet depicted in Vermeer's 1656
painting "A Sleeping Maid". The dominant color of this carpet is
a deep and earthy brick red, complemented by a vibrant golden
natural euphorbia yellow. |
