The main medallion structure of the the Wheel carpets
features an intricate "gereh" (strapwork) interlace, which is thought by some to be related
to Seljuk architectural motifs. Later this same interlace
is simplified into the "stars and bars" octagon medallion
seen in "Large Pattern Holbein" carpets, which
persists in "Bergama" carpets to this day. |
