In this photo of early Ushak Medallion border from his book "L'Ushak"
Alberto Boralevi (www.albertoboralevi.com) notes the Kufic
interlace combined with floral motifs. Like the medallion
arabesques described previously, this seems to connect the
curvilinear large format Ushak designs with their predecessors, the Lotto and Holbein, as well as with Timurud and Seljuk carpets. |
